Ah to sleep, perchance to dream...

After my brave declarations, nothing. For a long time.

I am finding it difficult, actually, as a mid to high ranking executive, to blog. Most of the things I am interested in, if I stated my opinion clearly, would get me in trouble with either my constituency (such as it is), my base, my boss, my board, and/or my funders. I'd be willing to take on the last, if a) my approach would not get me in trouble with the Boss, and b) my board, which as a bunch of volunteers, really do not need to get dragged down into the down and dirty.

Because we have a Minister now that has shown a clear and naked willingness to cut off funding for useful programs to agencies that say things he does not like. Now if CIC were providing core funding, I would have no problem with withdrawing funding. CIC has not provided core funding for many years now. But kicking people out of adult ESL classes because you don't like the critical position of the agency that runs them; that, frankly, is un-Canadian (sorry, people I work for, but it is true).

Well, if I can be obsequious for a moment, Minister Kenney is probably the most powerful, engaged, and active Minister we in the immigration field have had since say Barbara McDougal 20+ some years ago. It hasn't been regarded as much of a ministry for a long time now, and most of the occupants have been ignoramous placeholders (Joe Volpe anyone? geez). For sure this means things will come forward that I disagree with; but I am also hoping that some of the hideous log-jams that have bedevilled my sector for a couple of decades now might be breakable. Ah well, I've always been an optimist.

Ah to sleep, perchance to dream...

In the worst case, start a new anonymous blog, I guess. Then send your loyal commentors the URL so we can find you but the bad guys can't (or not easily).
